Assignment #6

  • Students will be creating a Surreal Digital Painting on Adobe Photoshop. 

                         ( if photoshop is unavailable students many use alternative apps, listed below )

  • This Surrealism digital painting will use one of the crisis symbols (from Assignment  #4 objects and symbolism

  •  Create a clear juxtaposition in this Digital painting. (for more information refer to Step #2 Juxtaposition)

  • Strive to have a cohesive color palette within this Digital Painting . (you could use the color palette constructed in section #3 mood board.)

  • Think about what kind of painting styles you are using as you create this Digital Artwork 

  •  Look at the examples of finished projects, and watch the tutorial videos for guidance.

  • Make this Digital Painting 11" X 17"

  • Save final artwork as JPEG file

  • Email finished Digital paintings to j.leone.art.education@gmail.com.  (Complete projects will be uploaded to the student gallery)

 

​All projects in this unit can be modified to accommodate students with learning obstacles.

Students will be able to substitute the Photoshop Digital Painting with a Digital Collage (on free alternative apps listed below.) or a physical collage (made out of available materials)

Additional Information

This unit walks students through the commonly used design process of:  

Empathy, Research, Brainstorm, Sketch, Concept Development, Revision, and Completion. Students are being taken through this design process though the numerical sections of this project's website. 

 

These sections consist of: 

#1 Researching/ unpacking surliest artwork through writing (Empathy/Research), 

#2 Studying/ Applying ideas of juxtaposition to their own writing and artwork (Research/Brainstorm), 

#3 Creating a mood board that explores color and setting/tone (Brainstorm /Sketch )

#4 Exploring symbolism in art context and selecting a symbol that reflects some aspect of a crisis (Concept development), 

#5 Compare and Contrast painting styles (Concept development), 

#6 Creating a digital painting that ties all these concepts together(Revision /Completion), 

#7 Write an artist statement (Revision/Completion).
